Aaliyah Dana Haughton, known professionally as Aaliyah, was an American singer, actress, and model. She was of African American descent and had Native American ancestry. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was raised in Detroit, Michigan and began her career in R&B music at the age of 15. Aaliyah achieved commercial success with hits such as "Try Again" and "Are You That Somebody?" before her tragic death in a plane crash at the age of 22 in 2001. She is widely regarded as one of the most influential and beloved performers of her generation.
